Release of ‘Hyper Light Breaker’ Delayed Until Early 2024
The release of Hyper Light Breaker, the action rogue-lite game that was originally planned to enter Steam Early Access this autumn, has been postponed for a second time. The anticipated launch of this game, which is considered the spiritual successor to 2016’s Hyper Light Drifter, is now set for early 2024.
“So we just need a little more time for Hyper Light Breaker before we go into Early Access,” Alx Preston, founder and creative director of developer Heart Machine, said in a video explaining the delay. “This means we will move our date to early next year in 2024.” He said the extra time “allows us to bring the full potential of the game”. Preston thanked fans for their patience and support and promised “a new adventure that lives up to what fans have come to expect from Heart Machine”.
Hyper Light Breaker moves the game from 2D to 3D and adds up to three players to the co-op game. While the 2016 original cherished elements of the classic top-down Zelda games, the upcoming open-world installment features some of Breath of the Wild’s staples. These include exploring open countryside scattered with ruins while soaring through the air on a glider and surfing down the hill. However, Hyper Light Breaker uses procedurally generated environments, which should help with replayability. Its combat also seems to differ from Nintendo’s modern Zelda games. The first trailer for the game gives you a closer look.
“We have a lot of wild ideas that we want to put into the game, which is exciting and exciting because the format and technology that we’ve created allows for so much,” Preston said. “This short push gives us the best chance to make a stronger first step into open development early next year.”
